Blue Ovals and Iron Lions aplenty

Shannons’ Melbourne Spring Classic auction has got something for every type of petrol head imaginable.

However, fans of Aussie muscle really are spoilt for choice at this auction, especially if you’re a Ford or Holden fanatic.

Here are our locally-built picks:

1969 Holden HT Monaro GTS 350

1969 Holden HT Monaro GTS 350This lovely looking HT is, according to Shannons, a genuine 350 GTS that was once used as a race car which was modified by Aussie motorsport icon, Harry Firth. The 350 is understood to have then been campaigned in New Zealand before returning to Australia following some misfortune on the track. Subsequently, the Monaro was painted white and turned into a ‘Street Machine’ complete with 400-cid V8 donk and Turbo 400 automatic transmission. However, once it was discovered that the vehicle was a genuine Bathurst spec GTS 350 it was restored back to original condition. Shannons have put a price estimate of $110,000-$120,000 on this Bronze beauty.

1969 Ford XW Falcon GS

1969 Ford XW Falcon GSThis Candy Apple Red XW GS was originally a demonstrator at Heath Motors in Beaufort, Victoria, and Shannons say that the Falcon is in unrestored, original condition. Under the bonnet lies the venerable 221-cid inline six and it’s mated to the four-speed top loader manual, which is surely the enthusiast’s choice. What’s more, the GS has apparently travelled a mere 42,000 miles from new and also comes with its original books and a documented history of the vehicle. The XW is being auctioned off with no reserve and Shannons reckon it will sell for $40,000-$50,000.

1974 Holden LH Torana SL/R 5000 L34

1974 Holden LH Torana SL/R 5000 L34According to General Motors Holden archives, this Torana was completed on August 21, 1976 and was optioned with the L34 V8 Donk and M21 four-speed manual transmission. Shannons adds that the vehicle is in very original, unmolested condition and that the only modification has been the fitment of period correct Hotwire mags, although the original L34 steel wheels do come with the sale. The Torana is finished in factory Salamanca Red with contrasting black interior and Shannons estimate the classic Aussie muscle car to sell for $90,000-$110,000.

1970 Ford XW Falcon

1970 Ford XW FalconFinished in factory original Reef Green with a contrasting black interior, this very handsome XW ute comes equipped with the highly desirable combination of 302-cid V8 donk and four-speed manual transmission. In addition, the XW has recently had a new clutch and pressure plate installed as well as new rear brakes and a fresh set of tyres. Shannons adds that the Falcon runs and drives well and is accompanied by a detailed service history and is currently registered in Victoria. The XW has an estimate of $32,000-$38,000.

Shannons' 2017 Melbourne Spring Classic Auction will be held on Monday 25 September.
