1971 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 Convertible – Today’s American Muscle Tempter

The second generation of Chevrolet Chevelle was built between 1968 and 1972, and, while aesthetics are totally subjective, there’s pretty much no debate that the second gen is the looker of the family.

What’s more, even though it may have only been in production for just over four years, the second gen Chevelle went through a myriad of changes both stylistically and mechanically.

Power was derived from a host of different engines that included a 3.8lt and 4.1lt inline-six and a large variety of V8s that went all the way up to a big block 454ci (7.4lt).

The power from this vast array of donks was sent to the rear wheels via a range of different transmissions that comprised a three-speed manual, four-speed manual, two-speed automatic and a three-speed automatic transmission.

There were many body styles that the Chevelle was offered to customers in, including a two-door hardtop coupe, two-door convertible, four-door sedan, four-door wagon and a two-door pick-up (ute).

The Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 was the mack-daddy of the range and the most performance oriented one. Under the bonnet it packed the whopping 454ci bent eight donk that was good for 270kW (360hp) and could be mated to either the four-speed manual or three-speed automatic.

This particular Chevelle is a ’71 SS 454 convertible and, according to the seller, has undergone an exacting restoration that took over a decade to complete.

The seller adds that the vehicle is in stunning condition, and, judging by the photos, we’d have to agree.
