The best things come in three

Lloyds Classic, Muscle and Barn Finds auction this Saturday, July 23, has a truly remarkable amount of cars up for grabs.

Chief among the many notable cars on offer however are these three excellent looking Toranas that would have any iron lion enthusiast chomping at the bit to chuck a bid on.

1972 LJ Torana XU-1 GTR

Firstly, there’s this lovely looking 1972 LJ Torana XU-1 GTR in a striking shade of green known as ‘Lime Green Metallic’, with contrasting, and apparently rare, Chamois interior. According to Lloyds, the XU-1 retains its original 3.3lt inline-six with Zenith-Stromberg triple carburettors, a donk that was good for 149kW, which was mighty impressive in ’72. This oomph is mated to the factory close-ration M20 four-speed manual transmission and Lloyds also add that the vehicle is in immaculate condition both inside and out and even comes with the original Sprintmaster wheels.

1976 Holden Torana LX SS

Not to be outdone in the extrovert colour competition, this 1976 Holden Torana LX SS looks positively tough in ‘Papaya’ orange paintwork with a contrasting black bonnet. Lloyds says the vehicle has undergone a full bare metal restoration and has been owned by the same individual for the past 17 years. This SS has a 308ci V8 motor slotted under its black bonnet and has been mated to a four-speed manual gearbox. Lloyds also adds that the owner has added the flared wheel archers, front and rear spoiler and bonnet scoop from the A9X.

1977 A9X Torana

Last but certainly not least, the simply heroic A9X is arguably Australia’s greatest muscle car, and this 1977 model looks particularly sweet in factory ‘Jasmine Yellow’ with a contrasting black interior. The vehicle is reported as showing a mere 116,064 kilometres on the odometer from new, which is remarkably low for a car of this age. Lloyds adds that this is a matching numbers vehicle and has been in storage for the past 13 years. The A9X comes with full logbooks and, according to Lloyds, is totally stock and original throughout. In addition, the Torana A9X is up for grabs unreserved, so who knows what it will go for.
