Rare luxo-coupe Blue Oval

Lloyds Classic, Muscle and Barn Finds auction, which kicks off at noon today, has got some excellent metal on offer, chief among which is this rare 1974 Ford Landau.

Created as a two door coupe variant of Ford’s LTD, the Landau, which was based Falcon hardtop underpinnings, was the Blue Oval’s first attempt at an Australian designed and built luxury coupe.

Stylistically, the Landau was rather different in appearance from its regular Falcon brethren, and retained the front and rear design cues of the LTD, including disappearing headlamps and full width tail lights.

In addition, the rear quarter windows were redesigned and the interior rear seats were changed from a bench type arrangement to individual bucket seats.

The Landau was mechanically identical as the GT, complete with the 351ci Cleveland V8. However, unlike the GT, the Landau was only ever made available to customers with the three-speed ‘T-Bar SelectShift Cruisomatic’ automatic transmission.

What’s more, the Landau, like the LTD, also came as standard with four wheel disc brakes, which was a first of any Australian made vehicle.

This particular one at Lloyds has travelled an indicated 78,670 kilometres from new and has been in storage for the past decade.

Lloyds adds that the vehicle is in good overall condition for its age and has the added benefit of being 90 per cent rust free.
