Ford GT tops Lloyds auction

Mazda rotary also scores big money; Premier gets strong interest

This well-presented X GT scored $120,000.

Last Saturday’s Lloyds auction at Essendon (Vic) drew mixed results, though there is clearly good money out there for top-quality XW and XY Ford GTs. Three cars – one a GT-HO tribute – broke the $90k barrier, with top money going to a particularly well-presented white XW at $120,000.

Early Mazda rotaries are still clearly on the collector radar, with the lone RX3 at the auction fetching a very strong top bid of $80,000.

Meanwhile there are signs more humble family cars are getting traction. A well-presented Holden HZ Premier scored a top bid of $43,000.

One surprise was the feature lot, an HG Monaro GTS350, which couldn’t seem to move the meter past $145,000 – well below expectations.
