This thing puts the ESP in especially nice

Released in March of 1979, the XD Falcon replaced the outgoing XC Falcon and stayed in production until February 1982 before being replaced by the XE.

The XD was available in several different body styles that included a four-door sedan, five-door station wagon, two-door ute and a two-door panel van.

There were four engine choices made available to customers; a 3.3lt inline-6, 4.1lt inline-6, 4.9lt V8 and a 5.8lt V8.

These donks could be mated to either a three-speed automatic, three-speed manual or a four-speed manual transmission.

In addition, the XD could be had in a number of different specifications that included the Falcon GL, Fairmont and Fairmont Ghia.

What’s more, the XD was also offered with two different packs aimed at enhancing the overall stylistic qualities of the Falcon and its dynamic capabilities.

The S Pack option, introduced at the launch of the XD, included slotted wheels, pin striping, ‘S’ badging, wool blend cloth trim, digital clock, blacked out exterior pieces and a full sports instrumentation that included a tachometer.

The European Sports Pack (ESP) pack, which was codenamed option 54, was introduced in June of 1980 and scored the Falcon ‘Bathust’ globe alloy wheels, sports suspension with Bilstein dampers, ‘Scheel’ front seats and a red backlit instrument panel and clock.

This particular XD is a 1982 model Fairmont Ghia with the optional ESP pack and, judging from the sellers description and photos, appears to be in remarkable condition.

According to the seller, the Ghia ESP has travelled an incredibly low 89,970 kilometres from new and comes with the 5.8lt V8, FMX auto box, limited slip diff, disc brakes all round and air conditioning.

The XD Fairmont Ghia ESP is just over $48,000, however, the car is located in New Zealand, so if you’re in the land of OZ, you’d have to factor in the cost of getting it across here.
