The best things come in threes

JDM fans and Mazda RX car enthusiasts will want to have a look at some pieces on offer at Lloyds June 24 Classic, Muscle and Barn Finds auction.

Here they are:

1971 Mazda RX-2

1971 Mazda RX-2

Produced from 1970 through to 1978, the first generation the Mazda RX-2, known in the Japanese market as the Capella, was Mazda’s take on a mid-sized family car. Power came from a 1146cc Wankel rotary engine, code name 12A, which produced 97kW and 156Nm. This oomph was mated to either a 3-speed automatic or 4-speed manual gearbox. This particular RX-2 is a manual gearbox optioned car and looks to be in good, original condition. According to the seller the brakes have recently been rebuilt and the vehicle is an original left-hand drive example.

1973 Mazda RX-3

1973 Mazda RX-3

The Series 1 RX-3, which was known as the Mazda Savanna, was the smaller sibling of the Mazda RX-2, and was produced between 1971 and 1973. Power came from 982cc Wankel rotary engine, designated 10A, which delivered 78kW and 135Nm. The rotary donk was mated to either a 3-speed automatic or 4-speed manual gearbox. According to the seller, this RX-3 is an original, unmodified model that also has the added benefit of being an Australian delivered example. In addition, the seller also states that the vehicle has travelled a mere 54,537 kilometres from new.

1972 Mazda RX-3

1972 Mazda RX-3

Yet another RX-3, however, unlike the one above, this has undergone a fair amount of modification both inside and out to enhance the visual aesthetics, performance and comfort. For a start, the RX-3 is sitting on a sweet looking set of 18-inch Simmons wheels and has black accented decals running along the bottom of the car. Inside, the RX-3’s original interior has been completely replaced by a much more modern RX-8, including shifter. According to the seller, under the bonnet you’ll find that the car has ditched the original 10A donk in favour of a Series 3 13B Bridgeport motor, which has been mated to a Series 5 5-speed manual gearbox.
