Historic marque takes advantage of the good times

The most traditional of British car makers, the family-owned Morgan Motor Company, (the oldest in the world) who hand build their cars from base materials of ash timber, aluminium and leather, are having a stellar sales run, resulting in the re-acquisition of the land the Morgan factory and visitor centre sits on.

Morgan’s plight was so precarious in 2006 they had to offload the land the factory sat on to fund product development, but with sales up by 14 per cent over the past year and up to 30,000 people flocking to the Visitors Centre, things are on the up.

Not only are sales and visitor numbers up, so is employment, to the highest level in the company’s 108–year history.

The re-acquisition provides stable foundations for Morgan’s future growth and signals a solid commitment to the Malvern district, home of the Morgan Sports and three-wheel cars.

Steve Morris, Morgan CEO recently said: "The positivity felt by all Morgan staff is stronger than ever. To now own the land where we create our range of cars is something truly special and the news was welcomed with delight by the whole workforce. Morgan Motor Cars is enjoying a business turnaround under the guidance of the new management team and I look forward to fulfilling all of Morgan’s exciting plans in the future".

Dominic Riley, Morgan Chairman, said: "Buying back the land that is the real home of Morgan is an investment for the future of the company, an investment in the future of the factory and a significant moment for everyone that’s been working so hard at Morgan over the years."

Morgan built 750 vehicles in 2016, of which 70 per cent were exported and has 60 dealers in 32 countries. The Australia concessionaire is Chris van Wyk, who operates from Zagames showroom at Level 1, 362 Swan Street, Richmond, Melbourne, Victoria 3121.
