Holden Commodore Motorsport unleashed!
Keep your eyes peeled for the limited-run performance sedans
Lucky Holden enthusiasts who were fortunate enough to secure one of the 1200 Holden Commodore Motorsport editions have started taking deliveries of their new pride and joy.
A number of the last locally-made performance vehicles have been spotted in the wilds of metropolitan suburbia, and boy do they look good!
For those who may have forgotten, the Motorsport edition Commodore is, in the words of Holden "the signature model that recognises the many achievements of Commodore on the track to date. It pays homage to the many teams, personalities and fans that have made the nameplate synonymous with competition success."
The limited edition performance sedan, which is based on the SS-V Redline, gains a raft of performance enhancing modifications such as magnetorheological dampers, unique subframe bush, unique powertrain cooling, two-piece, cross-drilled floating brake rotors and exclusive 20-inch forged allow wheels.
All these improvements mean that the Motorsport edition qualifies as a General Motors level 3 track capable vehicle, which according to Holden, puts the Commodore in the same performance classification as the Corvette Z06 and Camaro ZL1.
The Motorsport edition also gets a host of exterior improvements like a phantom black roof, Motorsport graphics, individually numbered build plate, unique lip spoiler, unique red accent wheel design with ‘Holden’ embossing, red engine cover, lowering passenger mirror when reverse gear is engaged and puddle lamps.
On the inside the Motorsport gets heated, 8-way adjustable front sports seats, alcantara and leather trim with red stitching, ‘Driver Mode Control’ console mounted dial, Motorsport themed floor mats, stainless steel sill plates and the Motorsport graphic embroidered on the instrument panel.
Each of the unique build plates will have the cars build number and, below that, the letters RPO: KOM. RPO means ‘Regular Production Option’ and is GM nomenclature for a vehicles configuration option. KOM is understood to stand for ‘King of the Mountain’, signifying Commodore success on the racetrack over the years, particularly at Mt Panorama, Bathurst.
