Goodwood FOS Day 1 Recap
Thrills and spills on the hill
Day 1 of the Goodwood Festival of Speed proved to be an excellent day for the viewers, with some amazing car debuts and one not-so-excellent stack all taking place at the fabled hill climb.
For a start, Aston martin revealed their new Vulcan AMR Pro, an updated version of the already nuts Vulcan that’s been breathed on by Astons performance division, AMR. The Pro doesn’t get any more power over the standard Vulcan, 820hp seemed like enough already, but it does get revised aerodynamics and shorter gearing, oh and an awesome new paint scheme.
Aston also unveiled their new DB11 sporting an AMG derived, 4.0lt twin-turbocharged V8 that’s aimed as an entry level version of the British Marque’s sporting grand tourer.
McLaren took the opportunity to debut their new 570S Spider at the festival of speed, with newest model of their sports series range taking to the Goodwood hill climb in a rather rapid fashion.
Ford made sure that things were kept smoky with their new Mustang GT4 race car tackling the hill by performing a series of massive drifts and burnouts that filled the air with burnt rubber.
Other highlights of the hill climb included a very, very fast Subaru WRX STi driven by Mark Higgins, which took out fastest car of the day, a gorgeous McLaren M8F Can-Am car that sounded amazing, the thunderous new Bugatti Chiron and a Chevrolet SS NASCAR.
Unfortunately it wasn’t all roses at the hill climb, with the infamous Molecomb corner claiming yet another victim, this time a lovely looking Ford RS200 driven by a very unlucky Pat Doran.
