The world’s most iconic sports car hits seven digits

Porsche’s production site at its headquarters in Zuffenhausen, where all 911s have been built, has given birth to the one-millionth 911.

Yes, you heard right, Porsche has stubbornly made 1,000,000 vehicles with the engine put in the wrong place. And thank heavens they did.

The million-number baby is a manual 991 Series 2 Carrera S which Porsche has anointed with many gifts to celebrate the impressive milestone.

For starters it has been given the PTS (paint-to-sample) treatment in a gorgeous dark green known as ‘Irish Green’, which harks back to the original 911 of 1963.

Other Porsche Exclusive options bestowed upon the porker include 20-inch Carrera wheels painted in silver, the upper half of the door mirrors painted in silver, door handles painted in silver and rear engine lid painted in, you guessed it, silver. Model designation lettering is painted in gold as was the ’63 911 and even the badge has been styled on the original car.

The Porsche Exclusive options don’t stop at the exterior; inside the 911 gets a houndstooth cloth and leather interior with mahogany accents that include the top and bottom of the steering wheel. Even the classic five-gauge instrument cluster has been styled to pay homage to the original 911 and features chrome accents around the edges of the gauges.

If you think that Porsche will be commanding some absurdly high price tag for the millionth 911 then you are wrong, because they’re not actually going to sell it, ever.

What Porsche is planning on doing with its millionth baby is take it on a world tour to show it off, like any proud parents of a new born would.

The tour will kick off in the Scottish highlands before making its way to do a lap of the famous Nordschleife and then onto the US, China and who knows where else? Once the international tour is complete the historic car will be taken back to Porsche’s Museum, where one can imagine it will live a pretty good life among some pretty amazing cars.
