1980 Ford Falcon XD Panelvan – Today’s Budget Tempter
Perfect classic road-trip car?
The XD Ford Falcon represented wholesale change for the Blue Oval’s locally made family car when it replaced the XC Falcon in 1979.
The body was now smaller than its predecessor, but due to some clever engineering, interior room remained unchanged.
In addition, the XD Falcon, much to the dismay of enthusiasts, did not come with the option of a two-door hardtop coupe. Instead, Ford chose to produce the XD only in sedan, wagon, ute or panelvan guise.
Engines for the XD included 3.3L and 4.1L inline sixes, and 4.9L and 5.8L V8s. These motors were mated to either a 3-speed automatic, 3-speed manual column shift or a four-on-the-floor manual.
In the crucible of Aussie motorsport, the XD Falcon was a highly successful piece of kit, winning the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1981 and 1982. The XD also took out the top spot at the 1981 Bathurst 1000 with Dick Johnson and John French at the wheel of the now classic ‘Tru-Blu’ liveried Falcon.
All in all the XD was a successful model for Ford, with a total of 197,293 being produced between 1979 and 1982 before being replaced by the Falcon XE.
This particular XD Falcon is a 1980, one-owner panelvan in a gorgeous shade of brown. According to the seller it has low kilometres for its age and is a great original example.
The seller is asking a mere $8,998 for this symphony of brown, and if this classic Aussie panelvan has tickled your fancy you can check out the full listing here.
