The Chrysler VJ Valiant was made between 1973 and 1975 and was the replacement for the outgoing VH Valiant.

The VJ model differed from its predecessor in a number of ways that included: a new grille, round head lights, revised taillights, upgraded interior trim and a larger range of colours.

The VJ was also the first vehicle made in Australia to offer an electronic ignition-system, although it was only utilised on some of the models.

In addition, the VJ range was a much reduced version of its predecessor’s line-up, with models such as the Ranger XL, Regal 770 and Charger R/T dropped altogether.

However, the Valiant continued to give consumers a good variety of body-style choices. The VJ was offered as a 4-door sedan, 5-door station wagon, 2-door hardtop, 2-door coupe and 2-door ute.

The VJ’s range of drivetrain options was also impressive, with ‘Hemi’ straight sixes in 3.5lt, 4.0lt and 4.3lt versions as well as a trio of V8s, in 5.2lt, 5.5lt and 5.9lt versions. These donks could be mated to three different gearboxes: a 3-speed manual, 4-speed manual or 3-speed automatic.

This particular VJ Valiant wagon has the 4.0lt ‘Hemi’ straight six coupled to a 3-speed manual.

According to the owner, the brakes have recently been overhauled and the car is rust free thanks to some recent repairs.

This VJ also retains the original Chrysler radio, the original ‘Satin Bronze’ paint job and has also been fitted with a new alloy radiator.

The seller is asking $4999 for the bronze beauty. For those keen wagoneers out there, you can check out the full listing here
