Abandoned XB features in Lloyds' first Victoria event
Next Saturday's LLoyds auction at the Shepparton Motor Museum has no shortage of variety, though an unexpected highlight is an XB Falcon that was abandoned 40 years ago by its owner.
The story is he travelled to the USA and fell in love, and never returned, leaving behind the car, the house and, worse, the family! As for the car, it has a hole in one fender, but otherwise seems to be complete.
Other highlights include a Torana SS hatchback that has been done up as an A9X replica, plus a WB panel van that's survived in remarkably good condition. The latter is running a Statesman nose cone, with a 253ci (4.2lt) V8 and a four-speed manual transmission.
From the other side of the Pacific comes a very tidy '64-and-a-half' Mustang convertible. It's running a 289 V8 and auto - probably the most popular combo for these cars.
Another unusual lot is the Holden WB utility which featured in the local movie Spin Out. That's being sold to help fund the production company's next project.
Bidding has begun, with top dollar going to a Ford Falcon GT-HO Phase III which is said to be in unrestored original trim.
