Official Jaguar factory restorations now on sale

Flushed with success from a series of restored Land Rover products, JLR has taken the logical next step with Jaguar Classic’s ‘Reborn’ programme, launched at this month’s Techno-Classica show in Essen, Germany. No prizes for guessing the star of that particular show – the iconic Jaguar E-type.

This isn’t a continuation scheme, where the factory effectively builds new cars and appends an existing run of serial numbers. Reborn will instead source existing E-types and comprehensively restore them in Jaguar’s own facilities using approved heritage parts. The template was set by Land Rover Classic which started the process with the Series 1 and Range Rover Reborn.

Jaguar Classic has made a name for itself selling brand-new factory builds of the XKSS race car and E-type Lightweight, but the Reborn programme offers a more affordable entry price, the cars sourced by the Jaguar Classic team and restored to the highest possible standard. The work has been described by Jaguar Classic as ‘concours-winning’ and ‘absolutely authentic’.

The car on show at Techno-Classica Show is a Series 1 E-type Fixed Head Coupe in Gunmetal Grey. This particular car’s been mothballed since 1983, but it had previously been well enjoyed, racking up 78,000 miles. It’s been restored with the original engine, bodyshell and gearbox. Jaguar Classic offers some modern concessions to both safety and driveability. Where possible, original metals are replaced with more corrosion-resistant materials while customers can also specify uprated cooling, more effective brakes and even an all-synchro 'box.

Naturally prices are dependent on end specification, but Jaguar Classic expects opening prices to start in the region of A$470,000 for the ten Reborn Series 1 cars.
