Ford Cortina 1968 rally replica at auction
Fresh rally-style resto has huge appeal
This Saturday's Lloyds classic car auction could never be accused of lacking variety, with over 80 lots on offer. Something that caught our eye was this beautifully-done Cortina rally replica.
It's not something you'd drive to work every day, but would be a fun Sunday car.
The interior has been stripped out completely, leaving a bare painted floor, with two race seats complete with four-point harnesses.
Underneath the car is running some high-end adjustable suspension and roll bars, while the engine - a Kent 1600 that's been ported and plolished - sports a pair of big Weber carbs. That's tied to a four-speed manual transmission.
We're told the restoration was quite recent, which we'd believe given the exceptional condition the car is in.
The two-door is a second-generation or MkII, and was part of a series that, in 1967, became the top-selling car in its home UK market.
Bidding on this one (lot 27) had reached $15,200 at the time of writing. Let us know if you buy it - we want a drive!
