Chevrolet Corvette C3 project car – today’s tempter

It's not far away from being a stunning car.

The sixties and seventies Stringray series of Chevrolet Corvette remains a stand-out design, years after they rolled off the production.

This is the C3, the last series to carry chrome bumpers and, strictly speaking, it’s a 1974 build as indicated by the owner, which means it underwent a significant nose and tail redesign, which no longer included chrome front and rear bumpers.

Running a full chassis with a fibreglass body, these are long, low and narrow machines with remarkably little space inside, despite their size. They are however very special and great fun to drive. They’re not the most sophisticated handling package out there, but with a 350 in the front with an auto (there were numerous engine options, along with manual trans) they’re a fun Sunday point-and-shoot drive.

Maintenance is very straight-forward. The only quirky area is they use vacuum for things such as headlight opening/closing, so it’s important the lines are in good condition.

A targa roof is standard, which makes this a good alternative to a full soft-top.

This example is a part-finished project. The owner says the body is ready for paint, the chrome trim is done and the mechanicals are fairly fresh. Located in WA, asking price is $21,500.
