Motorsport Edition, Director and Magnum Commodores make public debut

Holden has unveiled three new limited edition Commodores.

The Motorsport Edition, Director and Magnum models were created as a result of a secret project, and aim to deliver track-focused performance with what Holden claim to be the ‘most capable Commodores ever’.

"Motorsport Edition, Director and Magnum have developed from a Holden team passion project into road-going homages to our people and our rich heritage. They blend performance and technology to create the most capable Commodores we’ve ever built," said Lead Development Engineer, Daniel Pinnuck.

The models are based on Holden’s three primary performance models and all sport the well-established 6.2-litre LS3 V8 engine. The Motorsport Edition is based on the SS-V Redline, the Director on the Calais V platform and the Magnum is a modified version of the SS-V Redline ute.

"We had a great base with the 6.2-litre LS3 V8 engine but the addition of a Holden developed driver mode control system, featuring Magnetic Ride Control, adaptive suspension, for the sedans and the introduction of our track-focused FE3 suspension for the ute, have given these cars even more to offer".

The Sedan models, the Motorsport Edition and Director, both feature a driver mode control system with Magnetic Ride Control. This gives the driver three suspension settings; Tour, Sport and Performance, all tuned for different driving scenarios and environments. The Magnetic Ride Control system uses sensors on all four corners of the vehicle that read road conditions, and adjust the suspension damper accordingly.

Taking from American-made vehicles including the Camaro and Chevrolet SS, Holden engineers have employed lightweight floating discs with cross-drilled rotors, an engine and transmission cooling package and 20-inch wheels and tyres.

"We’ve also developed engine and transmission cooling packages to meet ‘GM level 3’ track performance, meaning Commodore now joins the likes of Corvette, Camaro and Cadillac CTS as among the most track-capable General Motors vehicles", among the most track-capable General Motors vehicles".

These models are in limited numbers, with just 1200 Motorsport Editions, 360 Directors and 240 Magnums available. You can find out more at Holden's website.

The release was timed to coincide with the launch of this year's Red Bull V8 Supercar Holden entries.
