Aussie muscle still runs strong across the block

GT prices are climbing in the wake of big numbers for GT-HOs.

1971 Ford Falcon XY GT
There were a few true blue Aussie muscle cars crossing the block at Shannons late 2016 and this XY GT whipped up a bit of a storm on the auction floor, with bidding only running out of steam at a heady $127k. Fitted with a three-speed auto, this XY looked tidy and prices for these are starting to backfill the huge price vacuum left in the wake of GT-HOs. How long the baby boomers can sustain interest is a whole different discussion.
Sold $127,000
1973 Holden Torana LJ GTR XU-1
Not sold on paying a quarter of a million for a Torana A9X? The earlier LJ XU-1 is the giantkiller that did for the Falcon GT-HO at Bathurst in ’73 and demand is cranking. No, it doesn’t have the musculature and presence of an A9X hatch, but the XU-1 remains one for the true devotee of the golden age of Aussie circuit racing. With its 202ci six in fine fettle, this one sailed way past its initial reserve.
