A unique ‘town and country’ 1930s tractor has fetched a dizzying US$200,000 (AU$271,000) at Mecum Auctions in the USA.

1930s Sales Flop Gets Top Dollar

Okay, so tractors are usually a little outside our usual remit, but we couldn’t resist bringing you this one, which looks like the famer’s answer to a hotrod.

Called a Minneapolis Moline UDLX, the 1938 ‘Comfortractor’ had a 45mph (72km/h) top speed and was designed to be used as a runabout when it was finished in the fields.

The auction house listed the following highlights:

Rare, believed that only 20-30 remain;
Used in the fields and to drive to town;
Total of 125 produced, but many were returned to the factory due to poor sales;
Very expensive in 1938;
First farm tractor with a cab;
Also includes opening windows, rear doors, cigarette lighter, second seat, glovebox and gauges.

If you have one in the shed, you now know it’s worth restoring!

Of course if you bought the tractor, you’d have to buy the pedal car version, too, wouldn’t you? Yep, there was one at the same auction and it sold for a hefty US$3750 (AU$5080).
