UNIQUE CARS #376

What's inside this month...

VIOLET RUMBLE!

Xy -falcons

We corralled seven pristine purple examples of Broadmeadows' best XYs at Sandown Raceway during the 16th Falcon GT Nationals.

Dressed in the limited production run (or specially ordered) Wild Violet, this bunch is the rarest of Ford's XY fleet.

Steve Nally chats with the proud owners in our feature article this month.

PROJECT HQ

Hq -diff

On the face of it, our mighty HQ is a blast from the past, dating back to the early seventies. Although the basics may have some 'old school' flair, there's some serious development and refinement sitting behind many of the components. For example, the diff, made by Harrop.

In this month's update of Project HQ, we look at some tricky tech lurking underneath our black beauty and one of the companies that creates it.

LEGACY DRIVE

Legacy -drive

Each year a group of classic car owners use their vehicles to put smiles on the faces of some special people who become VIP passengers for the day.

This year we joined some of the members of the Victorian Thunderbird Club of Victoria and their mates on their annual cruise day as they gave a group of disabled people from the charity Legacy, the cruise of their lives.

PROJECT TORANA

Project -torana

Meet our next giveaway car, a 1976 Torana. It's early days yet, but we're giving you a sneak peek in issue 376. You can also watch the video here.

1956 PACKARD

Packard

Packard was once a proud name in the hierarchy of American car brands, but by the 1950s the company was a shadow of its former greatness. Paul Murrell looks at what happened.

PAST BLAST: Brabham BT11

Brabham

JB puts a very special Brabham through its paces at Albert Park, as he takes the reigns of a 1964 Repco-Brabham BT11A.

"The light steering is all in the wrists too. You finesse these cars around a track," he says.

GREAT CARS OF THE 70S: VW GOLF

Vw -golf

The Golf Mk1 remains the seminal compact hatchback but then VW needed something very special to retire the beetle. John Wright looks at one of the world's most iconic badges, the Golf GTI.

READER RESTO: 19 Hillman Minx

Hillman -hunter -300

Steve Guarino's Hillman is a true one-off. Although some people don't know what it is, the Minx gets no shortage of affection.

Buyers guide: Cadillac Eldorado

Eldorado

Whichever celebrity or TV show you identify the Cadillac Eldorado with (remember Boss Hogg from The Dukes of Hazard?), it's certainly a car that will get you noticed. Cliff Chambers details what to look for if you're in the market to buy one.
