On offer from COYS: A “container find” full of new-old-stock parts for the likes of the 250 GTO, F40 and Ferrari Daytona
The ‘barn find’ is one of a car-nut’s wildest fantasies.
Likened to the age old fable of discovering buried treasure, stories of wild finds of all things automotive continue to fuel the wander, and people are still striking gold around the world to this day.
Auctioneers COYS have uncovered a treasure trove of their own, in the form of a shipping container, filled-to-the-brim of rare classic car parts, which they say is worth in excess of “well over a million pounds”.
The container consisted of engines, exhausts, grilles and wire wheels to suit iconic cars such as the Ferrari 250 SWB, 250 GTO, Competition Daytona, F40 and 512LM. Parts were also uncovered for other Italian marques such as Abarth and Maserati, including the 250F and other historic racing cars.
Many of the components are still in their original wooden crates, and date back to the 1960s.
COYS Managing Director, Chris Routledge (pictured inside one of the containers), likened it to discovering Tutankhamen’s tomb.
The parts belonged to a private individual, who unfortunately passed away many years ago.
The collection had yet been fully catalogued at the time of writing, but will go under the hammer with No Reserve on June 29- a day before COYS Blenheim Palace auction.
