We caught up with Clive Mulder and his MGB GT V8 at the 2019 MG Nationals in Queensland
Clive Mulder’s MGB GT V8 screamed ‘pick me’ so loudly when the Unique Cars camera came within range that our pictures were done well before we discovered that owner Clive was also married to the owner of our featured MGF. Didn’t matter because this lift-back is a stunning example of its breed and would top the GT V8 point-score on the day.
The car moved early in life from the UK to South Africa. Clive first saw it in 1994 when the owner brought it to his workshop for a service and was devastated by its condition.
| 2019 Market Review: MGB/MG F/Z Type
“The car was badly rusted and in need of major work to save it,” he said “I bought it and immediately pulled it down to the last nut and bolt to fix the body, then in 2003 it came with us as a personal import to Australia.”
Since arriving here and as a consequence of living close to the coast some of the South African rust has manifested again, However the repair process has been very effective with the car winning at Concours level in Tasmania last year and taking a category win in Brisbane.
