2020 Market Review - Mercury 1957-1978
Australian links to Mercury began with the brand’s 1939 inception and peaked around 1970 when lots of luxury/performance Cougars were being imported.
Cars from the 1950s aren’t common here yet they are worth around the same as a local Customline or ‘tank’ Fairlane.
Full-size cars from the 1960s match the values of our Galaxies, with the only exceptions being Cyclone GTs. These with 428 Cobra-Jet engines can exceed $80,000.
| Buyer’s Guide: Mercury Cougar 1967-1971
Cougars in the local market are most often 1967-70 coupes, a lot with 6.4-litre engines and options including power seats, windows and convertible tops. Cougars are still relatively cheap and most will cost less than a basic Mustang of similar age. Convertible Cougars normally sit $10,000 above coupes.
