2021 Market Review - Mercedes-Benz Sedan/Coupe 1955-1986
The 1950s were good for Mercedes-Benz building an Australian presence, selling lots of Ponton 190/220 models. Then followed the ‘Fintail’ series, of which we saw a few sedans during 2021 but several finless 220-280SE six-cylinder coupes.
The W114 series of 250S/280SE cars have been making dramatic gains and outstripping later models. Also up are V8-engined 350/380/450SE sedans that now routinely reach $20,000.
Money sought for 6.3 and 6.9-litre SELs is up as well, however one car was sold via a local auction for well below the average ask. Compact 280E sedans and coupes make usable, affordable classics.
190/220S Sedan 1955-59 $25,750 [6]
