Mazda RX-7 Series 1-5
Forty years after the first RX-7 was sold in Australia, plenty of Series 1 and 2 cars survive and a lot of those remain in excellent condition. Buyers need to choose whether they want their car in basically standard or seriously modified condition because prices for stock or modded cars don’t vary much.

Excellent S1-2 cars cost around $25,000 with S3s slightly cheaper. The shape and character of the RX-7 changed in 1986 when factory turbocharging became an option. A convertible was also added however Australia didn’t see the turbo version until imports of ex-Japanese market cars started arriving. Series 4 and 5 Turbo coupes don’t normally show big disparities so blame a small sample for pushing the S5 average above $25,000.
