Oddball Japanese ute looks fun! Completely original and unrestored
Mazda’s 1000 is a little known compact car that was produced from 1967 to 1973.
They can loosely be thought of as the piston-powered counterpart to the Mazda R100.
They were powered by a variety of small-displacement inline-fours and were available in a slew of body styles including sedan, coupe, van and utility (both short and long wheelbases).
This Mazda 1000 Ute is a short wheelbase version, fitted with the smallest 987cc inline-four cylinder engine.
It’s a rare car in itself, looks to be very original and unrestored.
The seller states that the car has had just three owners since new, all of which are log booked with documented history.
The car has never been damaged and never been restored.
It looks impeccably original, though could use some tidying up given its unrestored state.
We love an oddball in the office, and we reckon this little Mazda ute deserves preserving.
The car is based in Queensland, and is listed for $16,500. We can’t remember the last time we saw one of these going around, and would be a great little project for the discerning Japanese collector!
