Could this short-lived Aussie legend be under-valued?
Leyland P76 V8
From derided failure to cult hero, the Leyland P76 has seen every peak and trough of a market that has at best been unpredictable.
Around 17,000 P76s were built, perhaps five per cent of them remain and everyone – whether they owned one or not – has an opinion.
V8-powered cars are the ones to buy with the 4.4-litre alloy motor easy to modify for improved performance.
Four-speed manual cars are more desirable than autos and generally sell below the $20,500 paid for a commemorative Targa Florio automatic at auction.
A handful of the hatchback Force Seven coupes survive and were sold after Leylands closure but they are too scarce to value accurately.
P76 V8 $16,725 [4]
Targa Florio $20,500 [1]
