Le Mans Ford GT40s on the market

Legendary Ferrari-beater

Cars identical to the hero GT40s in the 20th Century Fox movie Ford vs Ferrari, starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale, are available to buy.

Produced by Superformance – which is licensed to build Continuation examples with Shelby chassis numbers – the GT40s can be ordered through UK importer Le Mans Coupes Ltd priced from AU$305,000.

In developing the GT40, Continuation Superformance’s engineers have aimed for authenticity, with over two thirds of the parts in the rolling chassis interchangeable with the original car, including the monocoque chassis.

The Superformance GT40 chassis numbers are listed in the Shelby Car World Registry and the official GT40 registry.

Le Mans Coupes Managing Director Oliver Hulme, said: “The unrivalled pedigree of the Superformance cars has made them increasingly popular over the last few years – they are the perfect antidote to the anodyne vehicles of today. Unsurprisingly, interest in them has risen still higher since details of the landmark film were announced, and I can imagine our phones will be ringing long after general cinema goers have moved on to other topics, as Le Mans ‘66 will be introducing these matchless motorcars to a whole new era of enthusiasts.”

However if you want to grab the authentic GT40 driven by Christian Bale in Le Mans 66, head to Mecum auctions website as the actual vehicle goes under the hammer at Kissimmee from January 2, 2020.
