Queensland's Lakeside Park (formerly known as Lakeside International Raceway) celebrated its 55th birthday in style over the weekend
Lakeside Park celebrated its 55th birthday in style over the weekend of March 19-20 with the hosting of a variety of state and national-level series all coming to honour the 2.4km circuit which has seen legends such as Brabham, Brock, Johnson and Richards battle for glory on its iconic water-fringed twists over the years.
The Australian Trans Am series made a thunderous season debut, with Group N Historic classes, the Queensland Touring Cars, Production Sports and Saloons making for a diverse set of races as cars spanning the life of Lakeside, with everything from a ’48 Holden to modern Porsche Cup cars, on track vying for series points.
The rebirth of Lakeside has provided the local motorsport and enthusiast community with a fantastic venue for events since it was saved from demolition in 2001 and reopened in 2008, and as a place of historic significance it really deserves to have its legacy celebrated, with the 55th hopefully being one birthday of many yet to come.
