Special Holden A9Xs over $200k
Bidding for three prime Aussie hero cars has reached impressive heights, ahead of this Saturday’s live auction by Lloyds.
A 1971 Ford Falcon GT-HO Phase III (lot 333) has reached $520,000 – a solid result at this stage, though still some way off the cool $1 million that the auction house suggests it may reach.
Some 300 Phase IIIs were built and the model is a Bathurst winner.
This example was once owned by legendary cricketer Jeff Thompson and it was during his 10-year ownership that it scored the nickname Big Red.
Two Holden Torana A9Xs are also getting special attention.
The first, lot 1977, is recorded as being the test mule/prototype for touring car racing, and the four-door is currently sitting on a top bid of $200,750.
The second, lot 200, is a rare lightweight hatchback body that started life as a Street Machine magazine give-away car. It’s sitting on a top bid of $250,000.
