International racetrack builders given tender for second Mount Panorama circuit

Apex Circuit Design’s resume features Dubai’s Autodrome, China’s Zhejiang Circuit and NZ’s Hampton Downs circuit

The second circuit to sit upon Mount Panorama is progressing, with the most recent move by the Bathurst Regional Council to award the design tender to UK-based firm, Apex Circuit Designs.

Three firms had been shortlisted to be tasked with the job of constructing a second racing circuit upon our fabled mountain, and ACD should be well up to the task; with Dubai’s Autodrome and China’s Zhejiang Circuit already under their belt.

HERITAGE TOURING CAR LEGENDS RETURN TO BATHURST

Set to be located south of the existing Mount Panorama track, the new 4.5km circuit is partly aimed at bringing motorcycles back to Bathurst.

Supercars too is keeping tabs on the new track with the possibility of a sprint race on the circuit to bolster the traditional Bathurst calender.

The next step will see Apex’s complete circuit plan, which is initially priced at $3.7 million. A total project budget has been pegged at $50 million, with $15 million already pledged by the NSW Government and $10 million from the Federal Government.

While we’re immensely excited to see one more race track on local soil, revheads best not hold their breath – as ACD’s plans are only due in March 2020, with construction to proceed thereafter.
