HSV W427 – today’s tempter

Rare hero car

Launched to great fanfare way back in 2008 (doesn’t that seem like an eon ago?), HSV’s mighty W427 was to all intents and purposes a locally-built supercar.

Costing more than double the price of a ClubSport R8 and more in line with the sticker on a new BMW M3, the $155,000 sedan claimed 375kW (502hp) peak power and 640Nm of torque from the 7.0lt dry sump LS7 V8.

HSV initially announced it would stop building them at 427 units, however the company may not have factored in the global financial crisis of that year which saw production halted at 137.

An example has popped up on the market in SA. The owner says it’s in very good shape though is a little coy about the mileage. It’s priced at $249,000.
