2002 Reynard Indycar
Passed in: $45,000
Lloyds Auctions
This Indycar has strong Aussie connections Bought new by Barry Green and raced by three-time Indy 500 champ Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy, it eventually ended up with Team Australia. It has been driven by Aussies David Besnard, Marcus Marshall the only Aussie to win an Indycar title, Will Power. It wound up as the promo car for the Gold Coast Indy race. Minus an engine but complete otherwise, it would make a hell of a simulator.
What’s moving and shaking:
Honda Civic Type R
Launched in 2007 the Civic Type R revitalised the brand in Oz. Offered in a three-door body with one engine and gearbox combo, it was initially offered in red, silver or black with white joining the palette in 2009.
Powering the Type R was a naturally aspirated, 2.0-litre engine pumping out 148kW/193Nm mated to a six-speed manual. Zero to 100km/h took 6.6sec. Sitting on 18-inch alloys connected to MacPherson-strut front and torsion beam rear suspension, it looked the part. Inside were body hugging Alcantara sports pews. Given that only Just 2162 were sold between 2007-12 for a sticker price of $39,990 it could be a good bet for the future.
