Something classic, something quick and something to treasure
1971 Holden HQ Monaro
Long gone are the days where a speculative lowball on eBay could occasionally land you with a set of keys, and this tidy HQ with a somewhat hazy history attracted a flurry of bidders keen to sign up to some two-door chrome bumper loveliness. It’s a long way from original and the vendor doesn’t actually know if it’s a GTS or not which, 99 times out of 100, means it isn’t. It’s hard to see whoever made the trek to Kallangur, Qld feeling too aggrieved though.
Sold: $59,000
1998 RUF CTR2 Sport
If, like us, you grew up wearing out VHS copies of Faszination where RUF’s test driver Stefan Roser flings a Yellowbird around the Nurburgring while sporting a natty set of white socks and penny loafers, you’ll have a bit of a soft spot for the hot blütengelb 911s that emerge from Pfaffenhausen. This CTR2 Sport is based on the 993 Turbo and was delivered new to RUF test driver Steve Beddor, shortly after his assault on Pikes Peak in a fully road legal CTR2 prototype. With only 10,500km on the clock and any rare 993 variant drawing huge buyer interest, it’s sure to make some big numbers when it crosses the auction block in Paris.
Estimate: $640-780,000
What’s movin’ & shakin’
Honda Integra Type R
There are quicker front-wheel drive cars around, but few get anywhere close to the unflinching focus of the DC2 Integra Type-R. With a fierce mechanical diff, an engine that revs to 8500rpm, hand-ported heads, and one of the best gearshifts anywhere, the lightweight Teg is a car that might never come around again. Find one that hasn’t been molested and treasure it.
