Let's try to build up a Melbourne Cup field of horse-themed cars.
Since we had the nag drags (Melbourne Cup) yesterday, we thought we’d have a look at cars named after horses. How many are there?
Mustang
The quintessential pony car – too easy.
Bronco
Yup, there’s a theme developing here – naming Fords after hay-burners.
Pinto
Okay, Ford really does have a horse fixation.
Brumby
Subaru’s tough little ute, how could we forget? Also known as the Brat in the USA.
Colt
Yep, Mitsubishi’s long-running compact series was named after a horse, just like the gun.
Polo
Not sure Volkswagen’s mini car really fits the upmarket image of the sport it’s named after.
Pony
Nope we never saw the nameplate here, but Hyundai did produce its own pony.
Pegaso
As in Pegasus – this Spanish marque only produced cars for a short time in the fifties.
Starion
This one is urban myth. The theory is something got lost in the translation of ‘Stallion’ for this Mitsubishi series. We’re not convinced, but it makes a good story…
Okay, we’re a way short of a full Cup field, so it’s your turn. Are there any more?
