Holden VC Commodore SL/E
If you can manage to access it, it’s still possible to walk down the Port Melbourne laneway where Prime Minster Ben Chifley was famously photographed with the first Australia-specific Holden model, the 48-215. Close by, is the base for the company’s own collection of historic cars.
There are around 50 cars in the collection, curated by Vic Garra, who worked as an engineer for the company.
In the mix is a wide range of production models, including many Commodores, plus a couple of very special one-offs such as the Effijy concept car and Torana GTR-X prototype.
Vic says the cars don’t just sit in Holden’s shed, but are on rotation to various museums and get to a number of shows over the year.
