Holden Torana LC-LJ/LH-LX/SS/L34/A9X market review 2020
Looked at objectively, the GTR Torana scarcely qualifies as ‘muscle’ but its race and rally winning XU1 derivative certainly does and has helped drag exceptional GTRs to more than $100,000.
Genuine SL/R5000 Toranas have become difficult to find yet these scarce V8s cost only slightly more than a GTR. As occurs with GT Falcon replicas, demand for genuine SLRs has encouraged owners of other Toranas to convert their cars into ‘tributes’, which now cost $65-80,000.
Better value in the longer term is an LX SS hatchback with the 5.0-litre V8. In excellent condition these cars, which share their shape with the immensely desirable A9X, currently cost $110-130,000. Just one A9X hatch appeared recently, priced at more than $500,000, but there were several A9X sedans and an L34 at $250-300,000.
LC-LJ GTR $102,000 [5]
LC XU1 $131,000 [3]
LJ XU1 $138,335 [3]
LH-LX V8 $83,225 [11]
LH-LX SL/R 5000 $115,000 [1]
LX SS Hatch $118,375 [8]
L34/A9X Sedan $292,000 [5]
A9X Hatch $585,000 [1]
