Holden HSV GTSR W1 finds a home

Bidding nears $260k

The market for current Aussie muscle cars was put to the test at Manheims last weekend, with the sale of a new premium HSV.

Finished in a jet black duco with matching alloy wheels, this one-owner 2017 GTSR W1 had just 14 delivery kilometres on the clock and even had its plastic seat protectors still on, when it went under the hammer.

Going out with a bang the HSV GTSR W1 is the culmination and celebration of a 30-year partnership with Holden and of the many special cars that that have come through the doors of the Clayton HSV’s Clayton HQ, there is little doubt the W1 is their crowning glory.

Behind the grille is a fire-breathing supercharged 6.2-litre supercharged LS9 V8 with 474kW/815Nm mated to a six-speed self-shifter. The new list price was $169,990 plus ORC.

Some 800 orders were placed – far in excess of the production.

What is basically a race car for the road of which only 300 will be built, the W1 is more than just muscle with a full suite of safety technologies to match its performance and chock-full of comfort and conveniences.

Bidding on a cold and blustery Melbourne night was strong, but the W1 passed in at $257,500.

Post auction negotiations resulted in a sale for an undisclosed figure.
