2023 Market Review - Holden HQ-HZ Monaro/GTS/Sandman
HQ-HX Monaro two-doors were headed for collector market stardom and still may be, however the money available 18 months ago has diminished. $150,000 on a couple of allegedly genuine GTS350s was certainly possible, but not the $200K sought for a 308-engined HQ when a tidy one sold at auction for $83,000.
The $90-100,000 prices being asked for nice LS V8s remain viable though. The number of surviving HX LEs is anyone’s guess but it is doubtful that even a really good one would justify the same money as a two-door GTS350. HQ-HZ Monaro sedans have drifted back from values that peaked 18 months ago and $75,000 will buy an excellent 5.0-litre car.
Authenticity is a big issue when considering a Sandman ute or van, so seek professional advice if suspicious. Good 308 vans can top $100,000 and that is $50K more than the price of a good copy.
