Early 21st Century Commodores offer exceptional value and appeal to performance-car enthusiasts who need family space without spending a fortune.
Fuel consumption, considering the smallest engine in an SS or CV8 Monaro is a 5.7-litre, isn’t bad and averages around 11lt/100km in the manual.
Buying a decent SS sedan costs $7000-9500 with the 6.0-litre VY-Z cars only $3500 more. The Commodore changed radically in 2006 and there’s a bigger value jump to the first VEs which in excellent shape will absorb $18-20,000.
Set your heart on a late-series CV8-Z Monaro with the 6.0-litre motor and the ask can surge to more than $30,000.
For a 2002-03 two-door, $18-20,000 should be sufficient.
