A luxury you really can afford
Holden Calais/Statesman V8/Caprice 1991-2010
For reasons best known to people who ignore them, fully-kitted Calais, Statesman and Caprice V8s are currently very unloved on the used vehicle market.
Look at what you get in most of these: a brawny V8, loads of interior space, full leather and all the electrics you could want and it’s hard to understand buyer reluctance.
Fear perhaps that the gizmos might all break down at once, but Holdens of this era are pretty reliable.
Best buys surely must include the late-series WK-WL Caprice at $10-12,000 or a Calais V8 of similar age for $2000 less.
Speculators might try tucking away an early VQ Statesman but only if you can find one in showroom condition.
VN-VP Calais V8 $10,375 [2]
