Strong bidding for US and Oz classics
Today’s Lloyds classic car auction in Melbourne pulled plenty of interest, with strong bidding for prime lots.
A 429 Boss Mustang pulled a very solid $300,000, though it was subject to further negotiation. The local market for American classics has been a little soft lately, but this proves there is still good money out there for the right car.
Australian classics are still bankable. An XW Ford Falcon GT pulled a strong $121,000, while an HDT VC Commodore scored a remarkable $100,000.
The highlight lot for the day was the original HDT Monaro which was on the market for the first time in just under 20 years. Online bidding reached $366,000 before the live auction, putting it on the market.
The man who sold the car new, a 90-year-old gentleman called Uncle Bob, revealed he would have handed it over for around $3600 back in 1969.
There was little doubt the bidding would be fierce, quickly reaching $450,000. Uncle Bob got to drop the hammer for a final bid of $500,000 – a new record.
