Get set to bid on this 1965 Ford Mustang GT Fastback

If it’s early muscle with high credentials you’re looking for, this 1965 Ford Mustang GT Fastback is well worth a look

THE ICON

Few cars capture the spirit of 1960s performance motoring like the 1965 Ford Mustang GT Fastback. Long regarded as the most desirable first-generation body style, the Fastback combined aggressive looks with genuine performance intent. This example elevates that formula further as a rare factory GT and 63B Deluxe Interior model, finished in factory Raven Black, presented in right-hand drive and supported with provenance.

A-CODE POWER

Under the bonnet sits the desirable factory upgrade ‘A-Code’ 289 cubic-inch 4V Windsor V8, delivering a factory-rated 225 horsepower and paired with a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. It is a matching-numbers car with 64 Casting and early 65 assembly dates, specified from new with power steering and air-conditioning, striking an ideal balance between performance, drivability and refinement.

THE REAL GT

This Mustang is a genuine factory GT, confirmed not only by its visible equipment but also by its GT-only structural and chassis details. In addition to the correct GT dashboard and instrumentation with 63B Rally-Pac gauges, the car retains the factory-welded rear floor-pan bracing beneath the rear seat, a feature unique to GT and K-Code models and installed on the production line to accommodate the GT’s dual-exhaust system.

Further GT-specific chassis and mechanical components include front disc brakes, GT-tuned suspension with heavy-duty shock absorbers, stiffer springs and a larger sway bar, along with the unmistakable dual exhaust exiting through quad tips via the unique GT rear valence.

Externally, the specification is completed by the correct GT grille with integrated factory fog lights, GT badging and stripes, and original Styled Steel wheels fitted with factory-correct four-ply whitewall tyres.

DELUXE BY DESIGN

Inside, the Mustang is fitted with the Genuine Factory Deluxe Pony Interior, identified by the 63B Interior Décor Group. Embossed seating, woodgrain accents, unique door panels with integral armrests, courtesy lighting and a full-length centre console lift the cabin well beyond standard trim. A woodgrain-finish steering wheel with chrome horn button completes the authentic period presentation.

FACTORY OPTIONS, NO COMPROMISE

Additional factory options include the Premium Radio & Flasher and the Visibility Pack, incorporating a remote-control exterior mirror, day/night interior mirror and two-speed windscreen wipers—further evidence of a carefully specified car when new.

RIGHT-HAND DRIVE, DONE PROPERLY

The Mustang was professionally engineered to right-hand drive in 1997 by its second owner as close to mirror image as possible, with full documentation. Since conversion it has travelled just 4,567 miles, indicating limited use and careful stewardship, while retaining its original character and drivability.

DOCUMENTED & DISTINGUISHED

A large and comprehensive documentation file accompanies the car, including previously judged concours results from 1999, reinforcing its condition, authenticity and long-term credibility.

BLUE-CHIP FASTBACK

Undoubtedly one of the highest-optioned and nicest 1965 Mustang Fastbacks in Australia, this genuine factory GT 63B example combines rare specification, verified GT-only chassis integrity and strong documentation.

Best described as pure artwork on wheels, it stands as a blue-chip example of early Mustang collectability — and a very rare find in today’s market.

This amazing GT will feature in Chicane Auctions’ February sale, where carefully curated classics are presented in a premium showroom environment by trusted, experienced car specialists.
