The 37th Phillip Island Classic, running March 13-15, 2026, is a must-see event for any motor-sport or motoring enthusiast. Recognised globally and held at the iconic Grand Prix circuit, the 2026 Penrite 100 (in celebration of Penrite’s Centenary year), brings together Australia’s greatest collection of historic racing machines, famous drivers and classic cars. It’s a vibrant and colourful celebration of local and international motor-sport history.
There is so much to do at the Island Classic apart from watching the races. There are hundreds of classic, rare and collector cars on display where you can chat with the owners happy to share their passion for these special vehicles. Then find one of many vantage spots around the circuit and settle in to enjoy the on-track action.
Racing categories this year include Historic and Heritage Touring Cars and 5 Litre Touring cars, rekindling the passionate Holden and Ford rivalry that captured the Australian public throughout the ’60s, ’70s and 80s. Thundering V8 Monaros, Commodores, GT-HO Falcons, Camaros, Toranas and Mustangs will battle with the nimble giant-killing BMW M3s and Mini Cooper S. Many of these historically significant cars have previously raced for outright honours at Bathurst!
Sports-car fans will enjoy the smorgasbord of classes on-track featuring legendary marques such as Ferrari, Porsche, Elfin and Lola, whilst a packed field of Alfa Romeos, Porsches, MGs and Corvettes will be challenged by a sole roaring V8 DeTomaso Pantera.
Entertaining those who love open wheelers will be packed grids of Formula Fords and Formula Vees, all guaranteed to provide, close, competitive and combative racing.
Free all-day access to the pits is a highlight for many to view these historic racing cars up close, chat with drivers and mechanics, take photos, grab an autograph from one of the many legends of our sport and absorb the atmosphere, an experiences not available anywhere else in Australia, and rarely overseas.
While you’re in the pits enjoying the sights and sounds of bygone eras, check out the event’s shopping strip for an opportunity to buy from an extensive range of memorabilia, motor-sport themed clothing, posters, books, photos and more. There’s also an excellent variety of food and beverages adjacent to the pits, with undercover seating as well.
If you want to have a go on the track, you can do that too. Just near the fabulous museum (another must see) down near turn one, is a mini replica of the daunting island circuit and here you can jump in a go-kart and pit your skills against others.
When you are visiting the Island spend some time checking many of the other attractions, including the world-famous Penguin Parade, Chocolate Factory, Churchill Island, Vietnam Veteran’s Museum at the nearby airfield, and the Maru Koala and Animal Park.
