The XT Ford Falcon is the second iteration of the second generation of arguably Australia’s greatest locally built car.
Produced between March 1968 and June 1969, the XT replaced the outgoing XR and brought with it numerous changes that were both cosmetic and mechanical.
The changes included revised grille, new taillights and new safety features such as larger tyres, split-system brakes and electric windscreen washers.
Customers could have their XT Falcon in a number of different body styles that comprised a four-door sedan, five-door wagon, two-door ute and a two-door van.
Engine choices that could be optioned included a 3.1lt and 3.6lt inline six-cylinder and a stonking 5.0lt V8.
Power from these donks was sent to the rear wheels via either a three or four-speed manual or a three-speed automatic transmission.
Although the XT Falcon was produced for little over a year, it was a successful model for the Blue Oval, with more than 79,000 being built.
