Big six at auction
Though prices for Australian chrome bumper classics have reached telephone numbers for the high-end models, there are still some cars out there coming in at more reasonable money. This looks like a good example.
A 1978 Ford XC Rally Pack, it’s up for auction via Shannons (lot 153) with an estimate of $30-35,000 and with bidding sitting on $20,000 with four days to go.
This generation local Falcon, XA to XC, was enormously important to Ford Australia and was something we recently covered in a feature on the series. See it here.
As for this car, it has a couple of luxuries such as power steering and air-con. The vehicle report mentions a few minor issues but overall reads well. It also runs dual fuel, which is something a would-be collector would probably want to reverse at some stage.
Overall this is a good-looking and tough series. The driveline is the 4.1lt six and three-speed auto, which is legendary for its reliability.
A nice touch is the period Globe mags.
Potentially, this could be a very easy-to-live-with classic that you could gradually improve over time.
The auction ends June 15 and the full catalogue is here.
