2021 Market Review - Mercury 1948-1978
For reasons unknown, lots of well-kept and restored Mercury models have appeared in the recent market, pushing values to new levels.
While most can’t be considered cheap, they do offer an alternative to mainstream Fords. Most attractive to muscle car enthusiasts would be Cougar XR7s, which with 6.4-litre engines and lots of equipment cost around the same as a 4.7-litre Mustang. Or perhaps choose a 1960s Park Lane or Montego with big-block performance for less money than a Cougar.
Mercs from the 1950s may cost more than $50,000 but they come with lots of chrome and rock ‘n roll era kudos. And who would not be happy to own a car called the Turnpike Cruiser? True. From 1957-58 Mercury built more than 23,000 of them.
