Roaring Forties build
Ford’s legendary and ultimately successful 1960s campaign to beat Ferrari in the le Mans 24-Hour endurance race has had all sorts of interesting spin-offs over the decades, including the 2019 movie Ford v Ferrari and a variety of road-going GT40 race car replicas – including some by Ford itself.
A good number of the original 1960s cars survive, however we’re talking well into seven figures to buy one, making replicas like the one you see here a far more viable alternative.
Of the non-Ford product, in this country Roaring Forties cars have the strongest reputation and this 2001 example is one of those.
Each car is individually built, with much of the work done by the owner. In this case it’s running a carbureted Windsor V8.
It’s running the Gulf livery favoured by some owners – in this case it’s a wrap with a ‘distressed’ post-race look to it.
The pre-auction estimate is $100-150,000 and you can see it here.
It’s part of the Shannons Winter classic event, wihich concludes tomorrow night.
