Desirable revival of the GT legend
There was a time when Ford Australia appeared to lose its way when it came to performance sedans. However all was forgiven in the early 2000s with the launch of the BA-on series, that changed the whole ballgame.
Last year we pulled together a list of the top Aussie buys and this series made the list. We commented: “There’s no question the BA-on GTs represented a proper rework and rethink of the whole GT Falcon idea, which brought it into the 21st century. Of course the centerpiece was the 5.4lt V8, which had a huge amount of local development input, resulting in a respectable 290kW peak output accompanied by a very nicely-shaped torque curve that gave the thing proper V8 grunt.”
And we went on to recommend the GT-P in particular, for its upgraded brake package.
The example you see here is lot 145 at the current Shannons auction. It claims a little over 46,000km and the drive report suggests a little TLC would be in order. Bidding is currently at $39,000 while the pre-auction estimate suggests a range of $35-45,000.
It could prove to be an opportunity to get an iconic model at sensible money. See the lot here.
The auction concludes April 20.
